Samsung's Galaxy Ring was announced at MWC 2024, but it took almost five months to get full specs, pricing and availability details. It may be the smallest of the Galaxy family, but the Galaxy Ring is perhaps the most impressive gadget at today's Galaxy Unpacked event. It's the result of years of research and development in health and activity tracking, and it's shaping up to be the next big thing in the world of health monitoring.
The Samsung Galaxy Ring is available in black, silver and gold. It's available in US ring sizes 5 to 13 and is made from grade 5 titanium alloy. The ring design is concave with tapered sides towards the middle. All health sensors, battery and charging pins are inside and hidden under a layer of epoxy resin.
Galaxy Ring is IP68 certified and waterproof to 10 ATM, so you can wear it with confidence in any weather and even while swimming. The smallest Galaxy Ring in size 5 measures 7.0 mm x 2.6 mm and weighs just 2.3 grams, while the size 13 version weighs 3 grams.
Samsung includes a free sizing kit with every Galaxy Ring order. You will then be asked to wear the sample on your finger for at least 24 hours before confirming your final choice. You can also try on different ring sizes at Samsung retail stores and choose the right one right away.
Galaxy Ring pairs via Bluetooth LE 5.4 and can only be used with Samsung Galaxy smartphones running Android 11 or later. A Samsung account and Samsung Health app are also required. The good news is that users do not need to purchase any additional subscriptions.
Galaxy Ring also supports pinch gesture control. While wearing the ring, you can press your thumb and index finger together to operate your Galaxy smartphone, take photos, turn off the alarm, and more. It's also compatible with Samsung Find, and can use a built-in LED light to blink when you misplace it.
Samsung's new Galaxy Ring tracks standard health metrics, including heart rate via an optical PPG sensor and skin temperature via a built-in sensor. Samsung is also betting big on sleep tracking with the Galaxy Ring, thanks to its slim design that's comfortable to wear around the clock. Galaxy Ring's sleep tracking includes an active sleep score with snoring analysis, and additional metrics like movement during sleep, sleep delay, heart rate, and breathing rate.
Automatic exercise detection with live heart rate monitoring and heart rate alerts are also available.
The smaller Galaxy Rings (sizes 5-7) have a 17mAh battery cell that lasts up to 6 days on a single charge, sizes 8-11 have an 18mAh battery that also lasts for 6 days, while sizes 12 and 13 have a 22.5mAh battery that lasts up to 7 days.
